Our Sydney Networking Breakfast: A Wrap-Up

There’s something really special about coming together with people who genuinely want to see each other succeed. That’s what the AWISE Networking Breakfast in Sydney was all about.

Held alongside the Smart Energy Conference in the cool W Hotel, Darling Harbour, the event brought together a beautiful mix of people from all over the country (and even as far as Fiji!) for a relaxed morning of good food, thoughtful conversation and real connection. We had attendees from Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne and all over Sydney—proof that when women in energy come together, distance is no barrier.

The event was hosted by AWISE Founding Director Sophie Wright, who gave an overview of AWISE and the work we’re currently involved in, as well as future event plans.

Then our most recent board appointee, Lauren Hamilton from Smart Commercial Solar shared the story of the all-women solar project AWISE are helping Smart deliver for Officeworks, which she is spearheading. It’s a powerful example of what happens when women are trusted to lead, and when projects are built on shared values—not just deliverables.

Finally, our guest Sarah Aubrey, founder of Electrify This, spoke about her journey to electrifying her home and life, and how she unexpectedly found herself becoming a voice for everyday climate action. Her story was honest, funny, and deeply encouraging—reminding us that you don’t need to be an engineer or policymaker to make a difference.

After breakfast, most of us headed straight into the Smart Energy Expo—where a number of attendees were speaking or joining panels. We’ll be keeping the conversations going and look forward to catching up at the next AWISE event.
